Righteousness must prevail in order for God to cut His work short:
28 For he will finish the work, and cut it short in righteousness: because a short work will the Lord make upon the earth. (Romans 9)
There are many things God is waiting to bless the world with:
9 Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. (1 Corinthians 2)
We must receive God’s love in order to move into those greater things that He wants us to have. To be “righteous” means to be “right with God.” We can become right with Him at any time simply by repenting and claiming the blood of His son.
God is planning on bathing the world with His love and giving everyone the opportunity to taste of His goodness through The Sign of Jesus’ Coming. Paul said that when we taste of it, we naturally will want to repent, unless we are “past feeling”:
4 The goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance. (Romans 2)
19 Who being past feeling have given themselves over unto lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
(Ephesians 4)
And repentance leads to righteousness, and righteousness leads to God cutting His work short (Romans 9:28).
